The Robin Hood Inn is located in the village of Clifton Reynes, just ten miles from Central Milton Keynes and a six minute drive from the thriving old market town of Olney. Its idyllic location is in the heart of the village and the original pub dates back to 1577, although the current building is much younger.
In October 2017, the pub was purchased by a consortium of 58 local people to safeguard the future of this greatly respected community asset. Not only was there huge local enthusiasm in making the purchase but we are indebted to Dentons, one of the top global law firms who kindly donated their legal services to the venture.
The first activity was to refurbish the outside and this was completed with the installation of replacement windows and new external decorations. We even managed to clean off the old moss, exposing the old clay and concrete roof tiles. The old small and unwelcoming fireplace was removed and replaced by a cosy warm wood burner, interior areas have had a spruce up and we feel it has the feel of a traditional local pub.
We also totally re-laid the outside patio making a huge sun trap and a very pleasant place to enjoy a drink with your friends.
After a period being run by the consortium and a willing group of volunteers we subsequently employed a manager, a popular local chef, but in 2022 he moved on. He was followed by tenants, Peter and Mark but they too decided to move on. So from the 8th May 2024 we are back to operating the pub ourselves. When we heard that Peter and Mark wanted to leave, we took the liberty of asking Kath, the retired landlady at the Royal Oak at Cogenhoe if she would be interested in becoming our landlady. Although she had run her own pub for ten years and was very keen to retire she said that as the Robin Hood was her favourite pub in the UK, she would join us. As many of you may know, Kath was the chef here when Reg ran the pub all those years ago. So we are incredibly fortunate to have Kath back!!!
Kath is a fantastic chef offering traditional home cooked pub food and a great front of house (when she’s not in the kitchen) and what’s more a lovely person too!
The village and local community now have a very warm and friendly asset, where everyone and their pets are always welcome. The huge garden and patio area is a massive plus, being a great place to enjoy the summer sun and a drink while kids have fun in the play area.
The Robin Hood is just fifteen minute’s drive from Central Milton Keynes or ten minutes from M1 Junction 14. It’s also a delightful 20-minute stroll across the meadows from Olney church and you could easily walk from Emberton Country Park. So come and have a beer or two, maybe lunch and no worries about driving home!
We serve a good range of Real Ales, Lagers, Ciders, Fine Wines and Spirits.
We welcome thirsty and hungry walkers, especially if they leave their muddy boots inside the back porch!
